A firearms company that makes AR-15 style rifles for the iconic brand Colt, will open a plant in Breckenridge in Stephens County. Oregon company Bold Ideas confirmed the development Friday.

Bold Ideas goes by the name Colt Competition, making high accuracy rifles for competition shooting.

The move by Colt Competition into Breckenridge comes as the CEO of Colt Manufacturing in Connecticut has said there will soon be few good answers to keep his company in the state.

I just saw one one of the competition rifles at a gunshop today. I had to hunt to find this website as it wasn't on the Colt website. At the top of the page, click on firearms and there is quite a list of AR's on the dropdown menu:

Hooweee!!!!!!

For some time, I've lusted after a Colt AR-15, but I may have to alter my lusting. Those looked downright sexy.

Now, all that said, I've not yet looked at the prices, so the 6920 or 6940 may still have to be my options. Thanks for the story. Now, if we could only get someone to fill in the space at that big building out at West Reno. I can't think of the name right now, but I think SW Bell used to have it.

EDIT: OK. Just found prices. Back to the "common" Colt AR.

I am not really a fan of how the competition ones look myself. I have a standard Colt LE M4 carbine and love it. It has everything on it that I wanted. Plus a monolithic rail. But it wasn't much cheaper than these competition rifles. Its nice that they are getting out of the liberal state. I will never understand why a gun manufacturer would want to stay in a state that wants tough restrictions on firearms. Doesn't make much sense to me.
