If it was just slung or holstered, I have no problem with it. If he had a hand on it, it could be considered brandishing regardless of whether it was an AR pistol or a derringer. I believe it was OK for him to bear it. I can't think of a better way for John Q. and Mary J. Public to become accustomed to seeing arms being lawfully borne in public. Ya gotta start sometime! Ya gotta start somewhere! (Actually, it would be proper to say, "Restart.")
Back in the late 50's and early 60's, in MASSACHUSETTS no less, we carried our rifles around. We were kids ranging in age from 12 to mid teens. Those of us less than 14 eagerly awaited turning 14 so we could go hunting with a license (Younger than 14 didn't need a hunting license.). It was like wearing a badge! And, it wasn't necessarily hunting season. We practiced.
