We may disagree with the current law, but shouldn't they be enforcing that law? We always say, " enforce the laws on the books and we won't need new laws".

A bit like "sanctuary cities"? Every law is to be enforced. When we determine that we think a law is wrong, we must work to get it changed or repealed. We still are the government, but we have stopped trying to do things correctly, and until we start working together, we will have the government that we deserve.
We complain about the "idiots" in office, but voter turnout is very low, and worse than that, the many of the voters that do show up are woefully uninformed about the issues and candidates. We tend to only vote for our interests instead of trying to determine what is best for the entire nation.
Law enforcement targeting "illegal" activity is exactly why we support them.
