Hmm. I don't think an M1A qualifies as either "cheap" or "bolt gun." :rotflmao:

A friend of mine traded into a couple of Israeli surplus Mausers in .308 about 20 years ago. They were surprisingly mild to shoot, and they definitely fell in the "inexpensive" category (IIRC, he had less than $100 each in them). If you could find one of those, that'd be hard to beat as a .308 truck gun. I'm just not sure where you'd find them these days.

Another vote for TC Compass. They have threaded barrels and are accurate(guaranteed to shoot under an inch@100). I bought one for around $175 after rebate a few months ago.

My 223 shoots 1 inch groups with factory ammo. Should close up the groups with handloads. Good gun for the money.
