“There is no special provision in the Criminal Code that allows the police to enter the homes of gun owners during a time of an emergency,” said Solomon Friedman, lawyer and firearms specialist in Ottawa. “The firearms act is often used by police as a pretext to gain access to private residences that they would not be able to gain access to, the ironic thing here is that if these people were convicted pedophiles the police would not be allowed to enter their homes without warrant, it's kind of sad that gun owners have to fight for the same rights as any convicted criminals.”

I don't know the facts but didn't something like that happen after a tornado I thought it was here in Oklahoma or might have been in a surrounding state the person went back to place of residence to retrieve his guns and they were confiscated?

Do yo have a statute number? I'd really like to see what all the law encompasses.

SB1760

Sponsored by Rep. Shannon and Sen. Sykes, and signed into law in 2012 by Gov. Mary Fallin, SB1760 (the “Oklahoma Riot Control and Prevention Act”) states that “neither the Governor nor any official of a municipal or state entity shall prohibit or suspend the sale, ownership, possession, transportation, carrying, transfer and storage of firearms, ammunition and ammunition accessories during a declared state of emergency, that are otherwise legal under state law.”

We are not confiscating your firearms citizen, we are "securing" them for you.

Many probably won't get them back. The article said they would be returned "when owners provided proof of ownership". Don't know about Canadian requirements, but a lot of guns pass hands in private deals with no receipts.
