I think the previous suggestions of upgrading to 9mm is a reasonable accomadation to your situation. Also, carrying a long arm such as a folding pcc which uses the same magazines as your pistol would make a terrific back up. You can get 200 yds out of something such as a sub2k easily. They're cheap, reliable, and they fold up into a very small package that is easy to take with you ..rather than leaving it in the vehicle all the time. A couple of 30-33 rnd mags to go with it, and you've got just about any scenario covered.
You may have trouble convincing police/DA that you were in immediate danger of losing life/limb from 200 yards away. Try to lure him in a wee bit closer. Or just leave.

Folks, thank you all so much for the thoughtful and insightful replies!

I am comfortable and experienced with firearms but nowhere near as knowledgeable as you guys. I am strongly considering an ar pistol for the truck and maybe a 9mm or .40 to keep on my person, making my 380 a pocket backup. Not sure which to get first, though.

While the job normally has me in the truck, I'm also often on foot with one free hand.

I've been wandering our state highways and backcountry roads for years now and I've learned one thing: Okies are the very best people.

Sounds like you’ve got a good plan!

I advise log in here at least once a day and peep the classifieds. You just might find your next gun on here. The ones priced good sell fast so ya gotta be checkin’ on the reg.

Get your post count up enough where you can private message other members. Don’t be another new guy dumbfounded in the classifieds lol
