In more ways than one. First, the picky fine print instructions - don't staple the photo, do print your name and social on the reverse... The long laundry list of questions reminds me how close we are to losing what's left of the second amendment. Do-gooders are out to protect us with a list of questions. Longer the list, the more protected we are. ...and finally the second amendment tax comes to $85 plus $10 for the photos.

Now I know how long our chain is. Five years. Time for constitution carry.

I can't believe how long it takes for them to send a letter out telling someone to go to the sheriff and pick up their dang license. It's been 2 months and I haven't received nothing and I know they say it can take up to 120 days but get real.

The statute is 90 days.

And even then, I got my letter two weeks after the Sheriff received my license. When I called OSBI the day I got my letter (was at work, so hadn't checked the mail yet), they said they were "showing that [it] is still being processed here"...

I was told 90-120 days. I know the statute says 90 days but i also know of more than a few people around the state who it took 4 months (120 days roughly). Not to mention its the state we are dealing with so the rules don't apply to them. So did the sheriff office tell you the license had been there 2 weeks when you went to pick it up or did they contact you and tell you it was there themselves before the letter came?

When I picked it up.

And, you can challenge a state agency when it violates a law as long as it involves you. Rolling over with "the rules don't apply to them" is why this State and Nation are where we are now. It's 90 days from the time they start, which is when the payment clears. That's why you should pay with a debit or credit card so that you have a record of when they *should* have started.

You are all unhappy that the state is violating the 90 day rule.

You've lost sight of the big picture. The entire licensing requirement is an infringement of the second amendment.

As far as not getting the ten year license, maybe the people of the state with come to their senses and change this law sometime in the next 5 years. I remember people being excited when they announced the 10 year option for twice the cost of the 5 year license. To me it's just one more sign of bureaucratic arrogance: the state is charging twice as much for the same cost of processing the paperwork. They are supposed to be just covering their costs, but instead are looking at the whole thing as profit center and expecting us to be grateful about it!

I renewed mine 2 1/2 years ago, did it for Ten years, with much less hassle than you are describing. No new fingerprints and picked it up at the post office.

Sorry, but your logic is flawed. Although the State collects twice the amount in fees on the 10 year versus the 5 year, the 10 year option is far more cost effective on YOUR TIME. You ony have to spend time and effort in compeleting the renewal package once in 10 years as opposed to twice in 10 years. Also, as more people get into a 10 year renewal cycle, there were will be less of a burden during the renewals since the number of license holders will be spread out over a 10 year cycle as opposed to a 5 year cycle.

IMO, the 5 year license is only cost effective if you do not plan on being in the state longer than 5 years.
