I was at Lowes and saw a gun safe, basically $400...thinking this is cheap for a fire-safe gun safe. Has any one got any history with one of these? Thought it might make for a good Christmas present

I saw them today too. They had two different sizes and a combo lock with a key (not sure how it works but I know at least one person on here can not stand digital safe locks.)

Not too familiar with the safe in question but just about any safe is better than no safe.

As for the combo lock with the key. If it is anything like my Liberty with the S&G combo with key, the key is just to keep the combo dial from spinning. When I bought mine the dealer told me to keep the key part "unlocked" because if you lock the combo from spinning a thief may take a hammer to the combo dial to try to break in but all he is really going to do is fock up the dial and still not get into the safe.

I have a 50 cubic foot Liberty with a keyed combo lock. I never use the key for the same reason stated above. Don't see the advantage. Bought the safe at Atwood's in Norman sbout three years ago for about half of what H&H was getting for a safe by the same maker. CB

Have a digital lock on my current safe, and will never go back to the key locks. As previously stated, I would delay purchase until right after Christmas when Atwoods slashes the prices of their safes. You'll get a higher quality safe.

It's cheap because it has one of the worst fire ratings you can get. I can't remember off the top of my head but it's either nonexistent or only a couple mins

it was fire rated at 20 minutes. But I agree with the time it would take to get into it with the combination lock, but I like the way the shelves adjusted.
