Colorado May Replace Obamacare with Single Payer

A referrendum is on the ballot in November.

Bernie Sanders may not win the Democratic nomination for president, but his political revolution could succeed after all.

The first salvo in this this war may very well be launched by the state of Colorado, where voters will soon decide by referendum whether or not to replace Obamacare in their state with a statewide single-payer plan that would offer comprehensive health coverage, from preventative check ups to end-of-life care, according to ColoradoCare, the organization responsible for getting the referendum on the ballot.

The single-payer plan would be funded by a payroll tax of 10%, of which employers would pay 6.7% and workers 3.3%. An additional 10% tax on investment income, income from the self-employed, and some small business income would be pay for the program as well.

According to a recent New York Times article
, the insurance industry and conservative groups are already lining up to oppose the plan.

Will fail quickly as there is not a large enough working population to support the medical costs of the non-workers.
They will have to double or triple the tax rate to even think about coming close to properly funding it.
When doctors are told how much they will be paid, they will probably pack up and leave.

It will pass if "FREE" medical marijuana is included in your coverage.

It will eventually become another shining example of a failed "progressive / liberal / socialist" idea. Margret Thatcher said it best - "The trouble with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money".

one minor problem with quoting above .. single payer is NOT socialism anymore than Margret Thatcher's UK also single payer. in fact USA is the one of the only modern western country that's NOT single payer.

to me the entire point of single payer is to control costs .. this is where Obamacare fails in spades by passing the real costs to the federal government. with no costs controls .. healthcare providers/big pharma/insurance, etc. have essentially been given an open checkbook.

Big pharma has responded by jacking up prices for certain drugs by 10x to 20x + .. why? because they can. vs single payer will force drug companies to compete on price and performance both just like rest of the world. now repeat for mega healthcare chains, health insurance providers, etc. etc.
