Cowhide rugs?

Most you find will be of Brazilian or Mexican origin. The leather side will be a green or grey color and be warned they will slip the hair eventually. I've had 2 rugs done by a taxidermist from cows I skinned and they cost around $16-$18 per square foot. The leather side us tan in color and they haven't slipped any hair in over 5 years.

I know trapped animal skins have to be taken when prime or the hair will slip down the road. Is that the problem with the Mexican or the ones from Brazil? Tanned when not prime?

The wife wants a cowhide rug after seeing some at Mathis Bros. They wanted $200+ though. Anyone know a good place to get one locally?
