I have to say that reading this made me want to weep for my children and the nation but then I remembered that nothing is ever as bad as it seems at first glance. America is a resilient place with many resilient people and there are still voices of sanity. I did note that, while the article writer qualified this comparison, he lumped Bernie, Hillary, and Trump in the "free stuff" promiser category.

Maybe some truth too that.

More than some. Much. Read any number of posts on this forum dealing with politics and you can see the religious zeal folk have for their desire to have a savior. To make things better. Sadly folk think another, imperfect human being no better than them will fix everything. That the perfection they seek will be provided by imperfect human beings - often no better than criminals. Criminals who steal money from them each payday, who use that stolen money to pay peons to use force to achieve their agenda. Or buy weapons to kill those who disagree or they view as a threat to their power. Nothing about politics or the criminals voters choose to be their masters is close to being moral. The entire thing is an exercise in immorality. Seems most people enjoy that immorality which is why they gravitate to the evil circus called politics.

Everything in 1 Samuel 8 is true. Not because it's supposedly God speaking. Irrespective of that, history has born out these things to be true time after time. The more folk trust government and man's law, the less they embrace God and God's Law. See Matthew 6:24 for the comments by Jesus on this subject.

Ran across this today. Looks like Thomas Sowell pretty much gets it.

The Lure of Socialism
By Thomas Sowell · Feb. 17, 2016

..."But, most of the young have missed all that, and their dumbed-down education is far more likely to present the inspiring rhetoric of socialism than to present its dismal track record."...
