I didn't know, but learned this weekend, that you can't just take a 40 S&W barrel and place it in any old 1911 add a 40 S&W mag and make it work. But then I am not a gunsmith. 1911's have 3 different breech faces, 9mm/38super, 40/10mm and 45 acp. A barrel swap will not allow the pistol run correctly on the smaller 9mm or larger 45 acp breech face. extractors for 9/38/40/10 are the same, 45 uses as different one, ejectors are the same for 9/38/40/10 and the 45 uses a different one. As for the above mentioned person.......I hear he makes his own barrels and they are great.....LOL....I asked him one time at a show how much his hammer forge and gun drill costs....and he looked at me like I was speaking french. But then again when you give yourself the title "master gunsmith" what do you expect. As for your issues, 1.Rounds going over your head would indicate that the extractor tension is too tight or perhaps the wrong recoil spring is in use. 40sw in 5 inch gun should run a 14lbs spring. the ejector nose profile maybe jacked up too, but since he used a lot of crap parts it could be anything however. 2. the dent is from a poor ramp job, could also be bad magazines. (is it a ramped barrel?) 3.The gun not firing when the trigger is pulled.....I would just need to see it on that one....could be many things. P.s good call on the divorce, congrats. A A
