Why do we need lawyers in congress anyway? A lawyer is supposed to know the law but generally Constitutional Law is supposed to be used in writing a bill but the odd thing is, very few of them write a bill-they aren't english majors anyway. Besides, they don't need to even have the ability to read because they don't read the bills before they sign them, maybe they tell their secretary to tack on a pork project in hopes that none will see it and halt the progress of the bill but that's about it.
We need some honest"Joe The Plumber" types who will approach each bill with a reasonable amount of common sense-something lawyer politicians don't seem to have and only approve and sign a bill ager careful consideration of the effects on taxpayers (only 51%) and if the country can afford the contents of the bill. But I guess we have to be somewhat satisfied with what we have, congresspeople that look after themselves first, lobbyists second, country last and somehow as evidenced by their votes, God doesn't come into the equation unless they are about to lose their seat in which case they wail and cry out to God to be fair with them and allow them to retain their seats. Disgusting politicians!

Lawyers live for laws. Its not surprise that many of them would want to write them.

The problem with Washington is not the over abundance of lawyers. Its the power they gain once they are there. And once any person has power, they will do anything to not only keep it, but grow it.

Nixon was a lawyer, was it ignorance of the law that caused his problems?

You got me there, I guess you guys are right. It is better to have a president (chief law enforcer) that has an average or even below average understanding of the law and the legal system.

That is not what I was inferring, the issue should be a persons character not their profession. And the president has legal advisors and Whitehouse lawyers,(just like big corps. have legal departments) so is it the legal knowledge of the President or CEO that is important or the counsel of the lawyers around them telling them what they can or can't get away with?

202 House Republicans are lawyers. 233 House Democrats are lawyers.
BTW: Gore never attended Law school.
Chain email bs.

Gore enrolled in Harvard College in 1965, initially planning to major in English and write novels, but later deciding to major in government.[21][22] On his second day on campus, he began campaigning for the freshman student government council, and was elected its president.[22]
