My G19 is 20 years old and until 2 years ago,I had NEVER cleaned it other than wiping the field stripped parts down( I hate cleaning guns!!),running a bore brush down it,and putting the requisite drops of oil.At least 10k rounds later,I did detail strip it and it was a "little" dirty but still functioning perfectly. The bottom line is.....I don't care for 1911's based on 40 years and at least a dozen personally owned ones.......I would never recommend one as a viable carry gun.....and that's the way it is.

[QUOTE="redmax51, post: 1225492, member: 363"] Please...WW@ card,I have yet to find a WW2 Vet that actually carried one much less shot it.I've talked to many including my father, uncles, father in law and they represent Army and Air Force. They all carried either M1 Garands or Carbines. My uncle carried a 38 S&W,he was a B-17 pilot.I'm quite sure though some did carry them but it was a small group and they were a last ditch weapon.GM,have you actually held and shot a WW2 vintage 1911? I have and while it functioned well it was hardly a tack driver like modern ones are.It felt very "loose" compared to my last Kimber.Stan I would love to embarass you with a G-21 any time. You provide the high priced ammo and I will shoot you into the ground. You've got to be kidding,a 1911 against a G21 without cleaning and oiling?? My G19 is 20 years old and until 2 years ago,I had NEVER cleaned it other than wiping the field stripped parts down( I hate cleaning guns!!),running a bore brush down it,and putting the requisite drops of oil.At least 10k rounds later,I did detail strip it and it was a "little" dirty but still functioning perfectly. The bottom line is.....I don't care for 1911's based on 40 years and at least a dozen personally owned ones.......I would never recommend one as a viable carry gun.....and that's the way it is.
