Does anyone still believe a gun ban can't ever happen here?

We'd all be rich if we got a nickel for each time we heard someone say "they would never ban guns here, or disarm American citizens.

Citizens have already been disarmed in house to house confiscations after Katrina and we live today under some very strict gun control our Founding Fathers never could have imagined possible. Obama no longer has reelection to fear and will use the tragedy to ban who knows what.

Are Americans waking up to the very real possibility of a total gun ban, or are there still those who still say gun confiscation and/or gun bans can't happen here?

Only if the republican run house passes gun grabbing legislation. Then I'd believe it.

Obama is not the king, he still has to follow the process of our government.

He has already said, and has proven, that he doesn't need congress to pass anything. They are irrelevant just like the citizens of this country.

Not surprising... Americans have begun to listen to the media more than think for themselves. Over 50% of the population voted for Obama... they WANTED his health care, his gun laws and his redistribution of wealth. It's not a shocker... where we live, these people are in the minority, but in large large portions of the country, especially densely-populated urban centers which wield a lot of power in politics, they are the vast majority.

We're becoming the nuts. You know... the ones who "cling to their guns and their religion."

Incorrect. Executive orders do not trump constitutional amendments, regardless of how many times this incorrect information is repeated.

There is a threat to our rights, no doubt, but let's keep it in the real world where were dealing with facts and not fear driven falsehoods.

Executive orders can be used to expand on existing powers... such as classifying semi-automatic rifles as destructive devices, such as forcing FFLs to report multiple purchases (this has already been done) and many other ways to throw a wrench into things. It would be quite simple to make it extremely difficult to purchase or transfer firearms, should they wish to utilize the EO route. Of course, it will be tied up in court for years, but we all know what a crapshoot that is...

The 1934 NFA is quite specific. Even a drunk lawyer can't squeeze a .223 semi-auto rifle with a 16" or longer barrel into the destructive devices category. They were able to do that with the Street Sweeper because it had a bore larger than .50 caliber. I'm not saying they couldn't draft new legislation to change the rules but it can't happen with the current ones.
