I have worked in elder care for 7 years, and it is company policy that I DO NOT perform CPR on any resident. We also do not lift a resident that has fallen and are to call Fire/EMSA for any emergency. Why you ask? Because some sue happy family thought that there loved one was hurt worse by an employee who helped them up from a fall(later found a broke hip). And my company has been in litigation for at least 3 years.

Old info, I'm pretty sure. Last I heard, it's just compressions. I think someone above referred to the same thing.

I'm familiar with the update, it still depends on whether or not they are in respiratory arrest.
The recommendation for continuous chest compressions without rescue breathing are in response to a study that shows that lay people do not do cpr correctly and often stop compressions for over 16 seconds every time they do rescue breathing.

My information isn't always current, it has been 30 years since I trained as an emt.

The woman's daughter (herself a nurse) has come forward to say that she's satisfied with the care her mother recieved.
Of course, there was an 18% chance that her mother might have survived to live another six weeks with agonizing rib injuries.
RIP, Ma'am. RIP and fare forward.

People die, folks. Get used to it.

I'm an old lady -- not as old as the lady who died, but still ... old enough. If anyone rescucitates me I'll kick their ass when I get my hands on them. If I am dying, then leave me the **** alone and let me die in peace. If it pains you that bad to see me go, then hold my hand and tell me how much you care for me ... BUT DON'T go pounding on my chest (or lighting me up with that electric shock thing!!) ... Seriously ...
