Are you going to keep it for RVing later or just for the home build?

The idea is to keep it for a while. I've owned my current 1990 F150 for 13 years, and only put 12k miles on it. I don't drive trucks much, so this probably would stay for a while. Once out on land I'd probably use it more, I'll have a tractor and other stuff to drag around; but it still wouldn't be a daily driver.

THIS, would be awesome, not sure if the price is good for the miles... but I like the drivetrain and color combo.

Unfortunately if they list the 3.73 rear end gearing right in the ad, the "rated" capacity for a fifth wheel is only 10k. The 4.30 is rated to 13.5k.

There must be more to the rating than just the gearing, since that matches the auto ratings almost exactly, and the manual LOW with the 3.73 gear is still a steeper total than the 4R100's 1st gear with the 4.30. That must be part of a towing package that includes brakes or something too.

Your correct. There is a lot more to towing capacity than gearing although that is an important factor in standard transmissions vs automatics.

As an example, My 2020 has a 10 speed auto. I can select towing or econo as well as three other selections, but keeping it to towing.
With a standard, you get what you get. RPM at 70 MPH is going to be what the gearing is. 4:30 is going to result in higher rpm vs a 3:65. The 3:65 is going to reduce the load you can tow. (there is a calculation to determine this) With the 10 speed auto, you get the same RPM as a 3:56 gearing in 10th gear because the computer tells it how to work on the higher end like 6 through 10th gear. The lower gear ratio gets you off the stop light quicker and up to speed quicker. My cousins 2020 has the 3:65 gearing. We have the same 10th gear RPM when not towing at a set speed so it's the same mileage no matter what gearing is.
He is not rated as high as I am for towing.

That price is twice what I'd pay I think, The 7.3 is VERY sought after though so that sets the price up there I guess. The manual trans makes it even more sought after and those miles are nothing. I guess I may pay that as it will hold value being a 7.3. These are the only vehicles that go up in value other than a classic.

Are you at Fire Maintenance, or which station? The 10 new Brushers all came outfitted that way from Alpha One with the SRW, new beds etc. The first two FM did the upfitting on to make sure to test and make sure they liked em. Those Alpha One rigs are sick IMHO opinion and ride nice. Fox reservoir shock is what they used.

No I'm just with a rural dept, I'm the one who just ends up doing the ordering lol. We order from Blanchat Fire in KS. 600gal is nice.

Yeah if he was asking $10k I’d probably already be on a plane.

The newer trucks with the 5 speed autos and better I’d consider the auto. But I don’t want the old 4 speed.
