Federal 45 ACP alum.

I've reloaded for years but I was at Atwoods on Monday and thought for the heck of it I'd try a 100 round box of Federal Champion 230 gr. 45 ACP alum case ammo since they have all their ammo at 10% off till the 15th plus I had a little $$$ burning a hole in my pocket.

Anyway, yesterday I was shooting the ammo through my 5" stainless Smith & Wesson 'E' Series 45 ACP M1911 and I was really impressed with the accuracy of the ammo on the 25 yd. steel gongs......it's advertised at 845 fps and maybe it was just me but it did feel a little snappy compared to my 230 gr FMJ reloads.

Not a great feat for most here but using the ammo I fired the last 28 rounds at the 6" gong and I only missed with four rounds which for me is pretty darn good on the 6" gong.

If you haven't shot any and don't need the brass to reload you may want to give it a try.

I bought some on the great walmart pistol ammo sellout. It shoots just fine. .45 and 9mm.

I reload and see these empty’s laying every where. Must be a lot of people shooting them. Would you guys please go back to brass cases I need your spent brass.

Some of that aluminum case stuff has a single center hole just like brass case ammo.
You can deprime and reload it just fine.

I use Lee carbide dies. and fired a couple of those aluminum NR cases 9 times each before I seen a black speck near the primer pocket.. primer seepage.

Pick them up and look.. if they have a single center hole reload it.
I shot mine in a Hi-Point.

I shot some 9mm aluminum a few days ago that I bought in 2006.It was $3.88 for a 50 round box from Academy.I use to buy a case 20-50 round boxes for less than 90 dollars with tax.

I’ve literally shot THOUSANDS of rounds of Federal and Blazer aluminum case ammo through various 45’s and 9mm’s, and it’s been great for me.

I guess you are braver than I. Just can’t bring myself to load anything but good ole brass. Not sure if it is a legitimate safety concern or just scaredy cat.

What caliber are you reloading aluminum cases for, 9mm, 45? I would be very leery of the higher pressure stuff like .40S&W or 357 mag.

Ps: I saw what I thought was 38 and 357 aluminum cases on the ground at the range just last week. Took a big step sideways and resisted my urge to pick up empties.

Until the aluminum case lets go from fatigue. You might get away with it for a time or maybe two, but you'll blow a case if you keep at it very long.

Same here. I don't feel guilty about leaving the cases lay. I'd rather shoot aluminum any day over steel cased crap.

Being a reloader and mildly OCD, it literally stresses me out to lose a single piece of brass. I have no problem leaving the aluminum cases though.
