I saw two 500-round cases of Federal 7.62x51 147-grain FMJ at the south BA Walmart yesterday, with a price tag of $375. I haven't seen that caliber on the shelf in a long time, and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this brand? I hemmed and hawed about buying a case, but since I know nothing about the caliber in this brand, opted to walk away. Should I go back and get it - if you guys reading this haven't already run down there to get them? :P

Not with specific Federal branding or that bullet grain, but American Eagle (Federal) NATO 175-gr rounds are all I shoot through my LR-308. They're a good balance between being cheap, clean, accurate, and reliable. I would hope the Federal 147-gr rounds are the same story, but like I said, I don't have experience with that specific round. I pay around $1 or more per round for those. 500 at $375 doesn't seem half bad, but I haven't priced this ammo in over a year.
