I should know, but I don't

What exactly is the law on a felon and a handgun?

Are there instances where a felon can handle a firearm? What actually is possession?

For Instance:

Can a felon be in the same house as a firearm?

or does the firearm need to be secured (like in a safe)?

Can a felon be in the same vehicle as a firearm?

Can a felon go to the shooting range and shoot someone else's firearms?

Can/should a felon post pictures of himself/herself holding a firearm?

Is a black powder pistol or rifle prohibited?

Like I said, I should know these, but I'm unsure.
This is just for the sake of conversation.
Someone asked me some of these questions and I didn't feel comfortable answering.

Thanks

What exactly is the law on a felon and a handgun?

Are there instances where a felon can handle a firearm? What actually is possession? Not legally. In same vehicle, on person, or in felon's residence.

For Instance:

Can a felon be in the same house as a firearm? If they are visiting and not residing in the house, yes.

or does the firearm need to be secured (like in a safe)? It needs to be secured and not accessible to felon.

Can a felon be in the same vehicle as a firearm? No

Can a felon go to the shooting range and shoot someone else's firearms? Absolutely Not

Can/should a felon post pictures of himself/herself holding a firearm? If they want to go back to jail or prison, yes.

Is a black powder pistol or rifle prohibited? Muzzleloaders are not prohibited

This was a while back, probably 25-30 years ago, but I was on jury duty in federal court and they said possession means "in the vicinity of" or something like that. I remember them saying that if a felon is in a car, or I think a house where a gun is present, they can be charged with possession, even if they did not know the gun was there. Probably stuck in my memory because it seemed kind of weird.

Again, that's from memory and a long time ago... I might not be remembering correctly and/or laws may have changed.
