This sounds like the perfect thing to buttress up the Stand Your Ground law.

Florida Senate OK’s ‘warning shot’ bill
A so-called ‘warning shot’ bill that is heavily backed by the NRA and other gun groups now awaits Gov. Rick Scott’s signature.

Also allows brandishing at the armed individual's discretion. I don't have a record so I can shake my pistol in your face if I see fit. Ah Florida, you'll be the death of our gun rights at the rate you're going.

Florida is about to become the world's number one destination for homicide tourists. It's a growth industry. I'm thinking about going down there and starting a guide service.

I find myself unusually opposed to this.

Warning shot? Come on. I'm no 4 rules NAZI but a warning shot. If the bullet don't go into the guy you pull the gun on where's it gonna go? Really where?

I'm reminded of the young boy killed a while back when a shot was fired at a snake in a tree by a police officer and it hit the boy when it came down a long ways away. How many times will some FL knucklehead who feels mildly threatened by another FL knucklehead pull his/her gun and use his/her booger hook to warn him/her away? But Judge I was firing a warning shot he/she says. How was I know the bullet was gonna ricochet off the pavement and take out those two ole ladies walking down the street a 1/4 mile away????

If you're gonna pull your gun in self defense then it better by GAWD be self defense - which means your life is being threatened - you shoot to stop the threat. You don't shoot as a warning.

Bad law IMO. Really bad law. Gonna lead to some unintended consequences.

Just for the record, in the shooting incident you refer to the boy wasn't killed by a bullet that "hit the boy when it came down a long ways away" - it was simply a missed shot by the officer that hit the boy who was fishing at a nearby pond (he actually fired two shots): http://www.foxnews.com/story/2007/08/05/oklahoma-police-kill-5-year-old-boy-while-shooting-at-snake/

I agree that warning shots shouldn't be made legal nor encouraged.
