After spending 5 years at Tinker and reenlisting last month, the Air Force decided to show it's thanks by giving me orders to Cannon AFB. At best, the Cannon/Clovis area is a shithole. I know people that have spent their entire careers overseas, and I can't get out of the mid west unless I volunteer for Korea. FML.

Well then if thats what you want, volunteer for Korea. That assignment will likely lead to better ones than will come your way by staying here.

I was stationed at cannon as my first duty station. it's not bad.. (it's not great either) i got popped to go to Osan korea (non-vol)after being there for only 11 months. Any duty station is what you make it. Enjoy!

I spent a couple years there at Cannon, it wasn't bad at all. Of course that was many years ago, dunno what it's like now.

I was in the USAF for 24 years and there are no "bad" assignments, not really, although some are a little more desireable and some require a little more flexibility. However, most people who are unhappy with their PCS location bring it on themselves with a poor attitude. Give Cannon a chance there are nice places you can reach from there even if you aren't thrilled by Cannon itself.

I knew folks what hated the UK and Germany because "there are no Walmarts open at 3 AM here for me to shop" and other such drivel. Criminy enjoy what a country or location has to offer don't cry over what it doesn't have.
I know you didn't say that stuff I was just using it as an example.

My old deputy just retired out of Cannon, if you like I can ask him for some ideas on places to go/things to do and/or local highlights?

BTW - your reward for re-enlisting is that you will continue to be paid in return for your work and you will continue to have a chance to do important work that benefits your nation. If poeple only got what are perceived as the most desireable locations everyone would be at Langley AFB, Eglin AFB, or Hickam AFB.
