Yeah, plenty of places advertising Chinese SKS rifles for $69.99 in Shotgun News back in the day. Of course you still had to add postage and a transfer fee, or you could just buy 'em retail for $89.99, which usually worked out pretty close to the same.
Wish I'd bought a warehouse full, but as is I scooped up at least one example of almost every type ever imported to the U.S., so I'm relatively content with that. I'd still like to have East German and North Korean versions, but I've only ever seen one NorK SKS in real life, and I've never personally laid eyes on an East German one.

At one time they were $39 used, if you bought 10 you got free shipping, ammo was $1.95 a box of 20 . Man am I old or what !!!!!
