Our last four legged friend crossed over the Rainbow Bridge early this year, but our kids carry on the tradition. They both have more animals than we ever did at one time. I thought you should see how mistreated our daughter's Izzy is.

My best buddy is headed that way tomorrow. He has a hard time standing up, seems to be hurting much more, and an aspirin doesn't help anymore. No one else in the household wants another dog. Won't be anyone left who is glad to see me when I come home.

My heart goes out to you knowing how difficult this is on you and your family. Easy to coach from the sidelines but don't let the sadness cloud all of the great times you shared.

Grief and support for loss of a beloved pet ·

I lost my dog a few months ago, and the emptiness he left behind was devastating.
Every corner of the house seemed to remind me of him, and his absence was almost unbearable. I felt like I had lost a part of myself.
Searching for comfort, I found the book 'The Rainbow Bridge' on Amazon and decided to give it a read.
It was surprising how those pages helped me find peace and turn the pain into sweet memories. The book reminded me that, even though my furry friend is no longer physically with me, his love will stay in my heart forever. I feel compelled to share this book with anyone going through a similar loss, hoping it can offer the same comfort it gave me.

Thank, folks. This isn't the first time, and probably won't be the last. Still have 6 cats on the household. But I'm closing on 70, and don't want to leave another pet wondering where I went, when it's my time to go. I tell them I love them, and I'll see them at the Rainbow Bridge when I get there. And if they're not there, I won't be either. It won't be Heaven without them. My former church teaches that animals have souls. My own experience teaches that they have personalities and likes and dislikes of their own.

Offered Orca the last collagen chew in the bag this morning. He LOVES those things, but he saw and I told him it was the last one in the bag. And he refused it. I told him it was OK, I had another bag, and then he was willing to take it. He can have as many treats as he wants. Today and tomorrow, until his appointment. Then I'll get on with the rest of my life. Dad made it to 77. I can reasonably expect to do as well. Didn't expect to get to 30. I can do most of 8 years standing on my head if I have to. Longer if I need to. I'll just have to befriend all of the cats.

Bill, it hurts my heart to see posts like yours, and I’ll say a prayer of comfort for you.
My Father in Law turned 80 in May with my Mother in Law not too far behind, and their dog’s health isn’t good. They’ve already made the decision to not get another one, but I disagree with the decision. In their case, taking care of the dog keeps them active mentally and physically, and I’m concerned they’ll both deteriorate faster without a pet.

My disabled wife should keep me going. Not to mention two adult children depending on me, as well. Will it be as much fun?probably not. "But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep."
