My first vehicle was a 2001 GMC Sonoma. I replaced it with a 2011 Toyota Tundra. Both are 2WD with the drive wheels at the back. I've driven both in the snow and ice with no problems. In fact, the only time I've ever driven a FWD vehicle in the snow was when my mom got her Dodge Stratus stuck in the driveway. The driveway is 1/3rd of a mile long and she probably made it 2/3rds of the way up that before getting stuck. She was going to leave it there and make my dad deal with it when he got home. Instead, I was able to back it down the driveway and put it back into the parking space.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have a 4WD, mostly to go mess around on the jeep trails. If I did have one, I would probably use it when there is snow and ice on the roads, too. But I don't need 4WD for that.
