Could this possibly make a bunch of teenagers start pulling over to text/talk? I doubt it, but I'm not really for a bunch of teenagers pulling over on a highway just to use their phone, that in itself could be dangerous.

The insurance/impound law is sure going to complicate matters and cause a loss of time and expense when there are "glitches" in the system. I sure hope my insurance company doesn't screw up again.

that could be dangerous for adults too - and that is why I keep a paper copy in my cars...

IMHO, and I've said this before, cell phone manufacturers should be required to hard-wire their cell phone products with GPS and a shut-down feature that kicks in when the device is detected to be moving at more than, say, 10 mph. Only 9-1-1 calls can be made at that time.

which would also prevent passengers on public transit, or any person riding in a vehicle from using their phone....sorry but if I am on the road with a buddy and my phone rings I'm going to answer the phone and talk instead of staring out the window...

ETA: oops was slacking too long somebody already covered it.

I get a lot done on the phone in the car. I have a hands free system that bluetooths through the car, and all I have to do is say a name to get it to dial. I would be against anything that would prevent me from using my phone while driving.

You got a booster-antenna in the long-horns on the front of that Caddie?

Sorry man, that avatar cracks me up every time I see it.

I agree. More nanny-state cr@p. Some NYC politician was actually going to ban conversations in cars. Where does it end?

my understanding is that today a law went into effect banning teenagers with permits or restricted licenses from using cell phones to txt, or GPS type devices while driving, at the risk of loosing their license.

Yes, this law has already shown an increase in the severity and occurance of distracted driving in other states because as you said, they have to hold them down by the seat to do it concealed rather than up in front of them where they are at least pointing there eyes towards the road rathern than at there lap.

Any driver who thinks it's more important to look down at a cell phone than to pay attention to the road... needs a slap up the side of the head.

Laws like this don't do much good. Education at the family level is key, but when the parents pull the same stupid cr@p with their cell phones, it's going to be tough.

IMHO, and I've said this before, cell phone manufacturers should be required to hard-wire their cell phone products with GPS and a shut-down feature that kicks in when the device is detected to be moving at more than, say, 10 mph. Only 9-1-1 calls can be made at that time. Even then, I'm sure 9-1-1 operators will then be swamped with calls alone the lines of this:

"Hi, this is Michelle, my stupid phone stopped because I'm on the highway. Can you please call Suzy at xxx-xxxx and tell her that, like, I decided on a color for my fingernail polish?"

I'd like to have a little conversation with anyone that tries to disable my primary means of communication.

I see more adults with their head up the @$$, I mean with their phone in their ear, than I do teenagers! They are all over the road, stoping at green lights, running red lights, etc.

I talk and drive quite a bit...have for years. I smoke and drive too and turn my radio up - all while driving a manual transmission....yet it doesn't seem that I piss many people off as I actually pay attention to surroundings and avoid the other people on the road.
