going to start with H4350 and 57.5gr see if they group well at 500 yards.

Anyone have pet loads with the 168Amax in 30-06?

I like IMR 4895 with 165 grain Sierra Gameking SPBT. I think product number 2145. I use 47.5 grains of powder. (It is above max in newer reloading manuals, but was worked up too safely.)

I used that bullet in my .308 and tried it in the 30-06.. it has a shorter bearing surface than the 168 or the 165GK HP bullet.

What I found with the shorter bearing bullets I have shot for tight groups with is that I usually find the best accuracy when pushed at speeds above
published load data.
The 165 you speak of and the 155 I tried was the same way. In both 30-06 and .308 .. but that 165 was not a top performer at long range in my guns.

My lyman 49th states 50gr max for the 165 gr and 47.5 max for a 180 gr,, this is 30-06 I am loading for today.

here is my last attempt with the 165GK HPBT bullet in my 30-06 it was 37 degrees outside and the gun was in the car all night so it was also cold.

This is 211 yards including the cold bore shot..I would be happy with this,, but at 75 degrees outside that load went to crap.
So much for the Theory of "Extreme" powder I do not buy into that crap anymore this was a new jug of H4350.

I found some barrel heat makes my .308 group tighter.
Here is the group I shot at 37f that went to crap on me when it warmed up.

My load was worked up with the 165 gr. Hornady SST since it was intended primarily for hunting; it is nearly identical to the Amax but has a little lower BC. 49.4 grains of Varget with an average velocity of 2715 fps gave the best grouping for me, but I didn't go over published max loads. This was for a light weight Ruger 77 and I did not intend to shoot it over maybe 300 yards.

Several folks have told me the Amax works just fine for deer.

Thanks ,, I have used the 178 Amax on deer that bullet will remove both front shoulders. Fine for killin.
The 87 vMax was used to this year to kill a big buck from my .243 rifle.. Those bullets work fine.
Just need to get a shot with the 168 and see what happens.. The Hollow point 165 gameking is a sturdy bullet but it to will fragment inside and not exit
sometimes on a broadside rib shot..Not that I care about exit. And fragmenting is fine also. I just like to drop them on the spot.

I used to not shoot over 300 or 340y but some of this public WMA stuff I hunt has some 1000 yard plus area's to shoot.
Not that I am capable of this.. but would be nice to work my way up in small increments.

Got a small window of time yesterday evening and shot a few loads at 300 yards.
The bullet was the 168A Max most reasonable group was with R-P brass H4350 at 57.5gr 3 shots, the cold bore shot printed 3.5" away from the other 2.
The other 2 shots were .853" center to center.. No other loads came close.. This may have potential.. or may have been luck.
Will be prepping some more brass and try again soon.
Only enough light for the chrony to work 1 time.. The first shot and it clocked in at 2810fps.

Shot at 300 yards again. Best load was 50.5gr varget. In the 30-06
cold bore landed 4" to the left,,I must need to clean the barrel or something.

Then next 3 printed a 1.5" center to center group.. Just need to get that first shot moved over.

The distance from center to center on height for all rounds was .8" Shooting off the top of my car with a front bag only. Not that it matters as that is pretty steady.
