I would like to take you up on the rb casting you mentioned in my ML thread soon maybe would it be to much to ask for a crash course in rifle/pistol bullet casting?

2100 bullets cast in a day is good production. I'm always ready to quit at the 500 mark.

Thanks swampratt. I've come a long way from that first few lb's I got from Darren. I have so much reloading crap now it's just stupid. Garage, kitchen, living room, bedroom, closet. . . I don't know how the wife puts up with it.

I would like to see how the rest of the world does it ☺ The next time you do some alloying or casting I would like to compare methods. Currently casting 357 and 44. Use Lee melters and also ladle. Depends on which mood strikes me. I cast WC and SWC. A smidgen of LFN thrown in the mix. Usually use bullet scrap or COWW. Thanks and be safe.

I premelt my wheel weights with clips and make ingots. (hard)
Then the soft stick on weights and flashing or other soft lead gets to become ingots.(soft)
I will add 2/3 soft and 1/3 hard for my 45acp and 50-50 mix for slow 357 and so on and so on.

I melt the ingots in my lee pot and stir with a stainless spoon.. flux with sawdust or wax.
You know though i have not noticed any difference if i flux or not.. as i stir the mix every few minutes with the spoon.

I use the bottom pour from the pot..
I used to pour straight from the stainless pot i had on the stove top into the mold.

I will add some Tin or lead shot if i have a mold that does not fill out or if i want the bullets harder.
I water quench .. I have towel dropped them and water quenched not much difference if you let them cure out.
But the ones on the towel will get dink marks sometimes...dropping bullets on top of bullets.
So i like a bucket of cold water with a towel on the bottom.

I have done round balls in hard and in soft the hard will go deep into an oak tree and not be deformed much.
