For as long as I can remember my dad's wanted a colt python and him wanting one has made me want one since I was like 14 lol. For whatever reason neither one of us just never spent the money to get one. Well that changed today lol. Me and my mom decided to go in together and get my dad one for Christmas and I picked up this 1980 38 spl target model with a 8" barrel today. The action on this thing is just incredible.

I didn't realize they made a Python Target Model in .38 Special. I thought they were all .357 Magnum. Of course, I'm a Smith & Wesson guy, not Colt. I don't know that much about em.

Beautiful revolver. You're an awesome son. This Christmas will be epic for him.

Very nice. I've had two in my life. Both I wish I had back. There was one in Dong's years back in their special round glass gun display. It was a 3" barreled blued with ivory grip. I drooled over it every time went I in there. Pretty much a unicorn as far as i know. It was priced at $2500 which I couldn't swing at the time. Now it seems like a bargain at today's prices. As rare as it was, no telling what it's worth today.

Yeah from what I was reading they did a batch of just under 3500 of them in 1980. Apparently they wasn't a great seller because alot of them got sent off to third party companies and got cut down to 3" California combats.

Yeah 2500 for a factory 3" gun would be a steal. The 3" guns are the rarest from what I've read and go for crazy money

I'm a new member and an Old Fart that has sold many guns that I wish I had not.
The Colt Python ranks at the top of the list. It was from the 70's, Nickle Plated , 8" Barrel.
Nothing quite like drawing back the hammer of a Python. Nice gift to your father.
