My dad was a Navy photographer. The pictures he took were on film sent to Guam for development and analysis, so he never saw them.
I had known for a long time that he was on Okinawa, but only found out a few weeks ago he was on Saipan and Iwo Jima. Talking about Iwo Jima really upset him so I let the topic drop, but from what he did say I suspect he was there for some of those scenes in the pictures from the Pacific. And much more, it was a horrific experience.

I can't remember if I've posted this before or not, but the top picture is my father standing in front of several thousand German POWs. These were captured by the 3rd and 18th Artillery. Patton came along later and "borrowed" a bunch and then claimed them as prisoners for his group.

The bottom picture is supposed to be my father in Korea, but I don't think any of them are him.
