Gun Identity?

Can someone identify a gun for me?

It is a Colt ( I believe because there is a horse logo on the gun). 38 special. Double action.

Definitely a colt, not sure of model though.

to me it looks like an old police positive that somebody cut the barrel down to make a snub nose I have seen a few that has happened to.

Colt Detective Specical. 2nd Series. 1947-1972.

From '47to'54 the used plastic grips, 1955 to '72 they used wood with silver ( then gold like) medallions

My guess is that is a World War II 2nd Series Colt Dectectice Special. The knurling is a big clue to the gradual updates from 1st to 2nd.
