I trust people with guns way more than I trust them with cell phones. I was rear-ended twenty months ago and eventually wound up in the hospital with a subdural hematoma. The lady was texting.

Day before yesterday, my son (an Oklahoma County Reserve Sheriff) was run off the road avoiding being hit head on by someone texting. (The texter got a ticket.) Had that been someone else and not a couple of well trained sheriffs on patrol, there might have - no, WOULD HAVE - been serious injuries and likely a death or two.

People can be trusted with guns WAY more than with cell phones.

And people get on my case for saying we should put down the phone and focus on driving. Yes, that includes making calls (hands-free or not) as well as texting. Heck, it's proven that the use of a cell phone (hands-free or not) is akin to DUI.

Had a guy run right into me in Walmart a couple days ago simply cause he would not look up from his phone. Sure I could have moved over but why? Why should we have to make accommodation for people who simply don't want to pay attention in life? That is only gonna make it worse cause then there are no consequences for their blatant ignorance. I just let him run right into me, almost dropping his poor phone. My only reply was "try looking at where your walking instead of living inside your phone guy". He never even said sorry or excuse me he just looked at me like it was my fault. Hence my reply. I cant even count the amount of times someone has almost hit me in traffic b/c of being on the stupid phone. Far too many need to put down the hand held devices & step away, they lack enough common sense to safely own one.

My wife was rear-ended by a late 90's expedition on Air Depot. Guy hit her so hard that it pushed my 2007 F150 into the car in front of her, and in front of him, and in front of him and in front of him. Five vehicles total (plus the Expedition) in the pileup because he was on his phone texting. Truck did a beautiful job of keeping everyone (minus me) in my family safe. Nobody had any injuries past whiplash.

After all is said and done come to find out that the man didn't have a lick of insurance. He paid the first month to get the insurance verification and tag and hadn't paid since. Good thing I carry uninsured/under-insured motorist as the damage to my vehicle was over $9k. Midwest City cop wrote him a ticket for failure to pay attention to the road.

I was also rearended by a girl texting in June 2011. The line of cars was at a dead stop and the car that hit me never touched the brakes. I was pushed about 20'-25' forward up underneath the Chevy truck in front of me. It totaled out all 3 of our cars. I had a couple of surgeries. I'll finish therapy this month and should receive a disability rating soon. I wish I had a LOT more UM coverage at the time. I do now though.
