Has anybody installed a magazine extension on a Remington 870?

I think they were originally part of a limited run of some PC nonsense to discourage use of extended tubes???
I made a simple tool that seems to work well raising them out. You're welcome to use it.

And here I thought they were for the spring retainer.

The detents were utilized with the plastic spring retainer because it is cheaper to manufacture than the old style detent ball system installed in the barrel ring and the spring clip retainer in the magazine tube.

This is what I was told.
IMO just another case of "It's cheaper for us so let's do it."

I drilled mine out. Looks cleaner that way and 10x faster.

At the Remington Armorers School they used a 4-6” round bar that had a gradual taper on one end. You screwed a rod in the other end and tapped into the magazines tube until you had forced it into the dimples. With a flat faced hammer you hammered all around the previously dimpled area until the bar would easily slide out. Done.
I think Brownells sells the tool for this. Pricey unless you are going to do a lot of tubes.
