Hawk vs. Snake - Death Match

Actually both were released back to the wild.

A coworker took these with his IPhone at his parents place near Tompkinsville Kentucky this weekend. He spotted some turkeys and then saw this while driving through his parents property. His dad unwrapped the snake and let both go.

The hawk flew off after a few minutes.

Can you tell what kind of snake that is?

Looks like a black snake to me. I have one almost 6' long that lives in my shop in the summer. I sure don't have any problem with mice or rats in there.

Why interfere with nature? Deprived that snake of a darned good meal! But interesting.

Hawk probably came down on the snake, but a black snake is pretty good constrictor if they want to be. They can go up a tree as fast as a squirrel, and do as a defensive method.
I love em as they are death to rodents, but my wife is death to them.

That's a redtail hawk. Snakes are one their favorite foods. There's no way that snake could have eat that hawk, just too big. I'm betting it was defensive on the snake's part.

that first pic is awesome! i would have left them alone and watched how it played out.

in grade school, there was a big black snake in the gym bathroom. the principal caught it by hand and took it about 100yds to the back fence to turn it loose. he had to peel and unwind it off his arm and when he got back to the gym his hand was red and swollen and you could see the imprints left from the snake squeezing on his forearm
