I have hearing loss related to military occupations. It finally got to the point I need hearing aids. The VA gave me a very thorough test and fitted me with some pretty high-end hearing aids. I tried wearing them about two weeks. They didn't seem to help me in understanding speech at all. The only thing they did was really annoy me...because the only thing I seemed to be able to hear was little irritating noises like cellophane being crumpled, wind, dog nails on the floor...stuff like that. They were also supposed to help with the tinnitus...they didn't. I went back for a follow up and had them adjusted. I still can't hear the things I need to hear but the annoying background noise is lessened. I guess that's good. I hope you find what you need and it works well for you. I just don't like them, even though they have some really nice features. I can have a phone conversation right thru the hearing aids...that's something I really like.
