Wondering about any updates to firearms on the train ...See, the wife wants to take the Heartland Flyer down to Ft Worth, rent a car there, drive on down to Waco, spend the night in a high dollar B&B, and go to this place called Magnolia Silos. That's some fancy place these people off HGTV run...a real artsy-fartsy-country-chic kinda place I think. (Undoubtedly, this is going to cost me a lot of money)...so who has taken that train ride? We're doing it this way for grins and giggles. Any advice or suggestions?

Haven't rode the Heartland Flyer but was on a train from Omaha to Oakland via Denver and Salt Lake City a few years ago. The stops kinda suck cause even if you are early you have to wait and could end up late later on. But it is nice to just sit back and watch things go past. Don't be afraid to get up and walk around as well, keeping your butt glued to a seat sucks. Walk around and chit chat if you feel like it. And I would suggest taking along a small cooler to fit a couple cans of soda or whatever into along with some stuff to snack on. I doubt there will be much to eat at any stops and if they have snacks available they will be sold like they are bagged in gold.

Oh and keep it concealed REALLY well cause ummm, yeah. Hmmmm hrnnnm.

Where they bust the sod in South Tulsa County.
We did the trip a few years ago. Train hauls azz 100 mph+ in OK and the section through the Arbuckle's was very scenic (south bound sit on the right side.). On this trip was very slow through TX due to construction and freights having right of way. The station in FTW is the old Texas & Pacific station and the Santa Fe freight station is cool also. We stayed at the new OMNI hotel right across the street from the train station. I believe there is a Hertz rental agency at the station.
I'd do it again...

We took Heartland Flyer a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Got on train at Norman. We took a bus ride from train station to the Ft Worth stockyards and ate at Billy Bobs. Got back to Norman late that night.

Want to take the grandkids on train sometime.

Have taken a couple of round trips with the wife and grandkids. First was before all the construction at the OKC station and parking was kinda a pain. Second time was during construction and parking sucked ass!!!!! Until they get the OKC station rebuilt and completed I suggest leaving out of Norman. Enjoyed each trip on the train other than parking and the grandkids loved it.
