good idea, I dont usually walk around the house without shoes or slippers with rubber soles but sometime I might.
We went the ceramic tile route for some that looks like wood and love it. We have dogs so hardwood was kind of out.
Is that because it would scratch from the claws or do they sometimes pee on it?

Did you have to do any concrete leveling work?
Both, two of the dogs are really still puppies. Dogs scratch hardwood, it's just part of having them. No on the concrete leveling, we did have to deal with multiple layers of linoleum that was under the carpet, the last owners had installed. Was kind of a surprise to find it. The installers did have to use some sort of roll on cover over the concrete, since it had the linoleum on it. Don't know if that was a leveling agent or some sort of adhesive, but it was a pain and added some time to the project.
So cat claws would likely scratch also. Good to know, I had thought about that briefly but forgot to ask here. Til would take a while to lay on 550' of floor area
Cat claws are retracted unless they flex their paw, so not as big a deal. Dog claws are always out.
But when they take of like a shotgun chasing one another I can clearly hear their claws griping the carpet for launch lol. They would do the same on a slick wood flood and just spin their wheels
