No, the State leases the private land from the timber companies using the money raised from the land access permits and opens the land to public hunting. This new acreage is added to the Honobia Creek WMA and is open to public for hunting and fishing after you purchase the $40resident land access permit

The private part comes in because there originally was over 1m acres under the state's agreement with the timber companies and now that is down to 250,000. Over the past few years (and after the expiration of the agreements with the state) the timber companies have leased out blocks of land to third parties.

Conflicting info lol

But this sounds more like what I was reading at first. I misunderstood and though it was the state leasing it out. Instead the state lost it and the timber company (who actually owns the land) is leasing out the hunting rights to prove parties.
Am I on the righ track now lol

bulls eye yes there is a bear season down here. latimer ,leflore, pushmataha, and mccurtain counties. allout you are close. the state had the land leased years ago. they lost alot of the lease execpt for the 250000 acres. the timber companies leased the land to a group of people that in turned let out subleases. that group has now seperated into different groups. one bunch has 36000 acres they are leasing. the other group got the other half. the wildlife department just signed a new lease for 22000 acres that has never been offered up till now.
