You might consider Privet hedge, it can be shaped, manipulated, and controlled easier than vines.

I started out with ornamental trees that were doing fine. Then came that ice storm what, five years ago? It destroyed the trees.

So I planted photinias. I was told they were tough as nails. I babied them along and they didn't do great, but they were growing. Then came the bad winter of two years ago?

All the photinias seemed dead except three. I pulled all but the three out and planted cherry laurels. I was told they grow like weeds and are tough. That was from my neighbor who has two cherry laurels that are about fifteen feet tall and ten feet wide.

Only the cherry laurels aren't growing as fast as I thought and I'm kind of worried about this winter.

The irony is that two of the three photinias I left are really taking off. It's making me wonder about the photinias I pulled out.

If I had it to do over I would have planted a row of trees.

That's why I was wondering about wisteria and honeysuckle.
