I watched a documentary on Netflix about Chavez's TV show. He was a daily show in Venezuela, where the state-run TV broadcasts what the gov't gives them. It was like a variety show, with Chavez singing, telling jokes, stories, and just saying random crap that popped into his head. It was unscripted, live TV.
One time, in 2007, he accidentally talked himself into a war with Colombia as a result of one of his televised rants. He misspoke some 'facts' about FARC, got a bunch of people on his side pissed off, and despite his military saying 'WTF?', it turned into an evening of war. The next day, he came to his senses, ordered an end to conflict, and declared victory on that day's TV show.
