Many years ago I inherited a Model 36 snubbie,,, So when I saw a nice Model 34 snubbie at a pawn shop,,, I couldn't resist and purchased it on the spot so the 36 wouldn't be lonely. The 36 is a round butt and is named Velma after my sister,,, The 34 is a square butt and is named Velda after Mickey Spillane's secretary. To even them up I bought those Pachmayer grips that have the exact same outer size. Then I was in that same Evil Pawn Shop and saw a somewhat beat-up 3" Model 34,,, It had the ugliest fake pearl grips I have ever seen on a gun,,, I had them described as "Mother of Toilet Seat" grips. It looked like someone had dropped it on a concrete surface,,, It had a couple of small dings on the sight groove,,, And while not rusted, the blue was worn. So I did a bit of judicial file work to smooth those dents,,, And did a surprisingly decent job of cold bluing it,,, Replaced those plastic grips with laminates,,, And ended up with a fine shooting gun. Even with the grips she cost me less than $300.00,,, I would love to find a 4" Model 34 as well,,, But those guns have gotten too pricey. Since this gun had obviously been "rode hard and put up wet",,, I named her Libby after Libby Thompson (AKA Squirrel Tooth Alice),,, A famous prostitute and madam of a brothel in 1890's Sweetwater Texas. Thanks for looking,,, Aarond .
