Being a bit (read severely) OCD,,,
I love pistols in a nice padded display case.

About a decade ago my best friend passed away,,,
When we went to the range she would always bring,,,
The Nickle plated S&W Model 34 her Father gave her at age 12.

According to the story she told,,,
Her Pop took her to a gun store and told her,,,
She could pick out any of the .22 pistols that were there.

On hearing the story for the first time,,,
I complimented her on her great choice in her gun.

I asked her why she chose that particular gun,,,
Her reply was, "It was shiny."

When she passed her Brother gave me the pistol as a memento.

I had always planned to put it in a case but never got around to it.

One of my favorite revolvers is my 3" S&W Model 34,,,
For sheer simplicity and utility I feel it's a hard pistol to beat.

So when a gentleman on this forum put a Nickle plated 3" Model 36 for sale,,,
I decided that his asking price of $399.00 was too good to pass up.

Mainly because along with my OCD driven love for cased handguns,,,
I also love to collect identical pistols (or near identical) in centerfire and rimfire.

I've been threatening to case this pair for a while now,,,
After several years of procrastination,,,
I finally did the deed.

I found this nice box at a thrift store for $2.00,,,
Add $4.00 of foam and $3.00 of red cloth,,,
I have cased these two lovely girls.

I have a new clasp with a hasp for a small padlock,,,
I just need to buy some screws small enough to mount it.

These pistols are so lovely,,,
I named them after the Fanning Sisters.

Ladies and Gentlemen,,,
Meet Elle, the Model 34,,,
And Dakota, the Model 36.

So, have I aroused anyone's jealousy?

Aarond

P.S. Thrift stores are wonderful places to browse through,,,
This box sells at Hobby Lobby for over $40.00.

Thank you good people,,,
It was a very satisfying project.

I need to find one of those brass loop cleaning rods,,,
I mean most cased guns I've seen have included cleaning stuff.

Amazon has them for $12.99,,,
But I've seen them at gun shows for 2-3 bucks.

You have caused me now to be on the hunt for a 3” Model 34. As I have the Snub and now I know it is very lonely!

You have caused me now to be on the hunt for a 3” Model 34. As I have the Snub and now I know it is very lonely!
Many years ago I inherited a Model 36 snubbie,,,
So when I saw a nice Model 34 snubbie at a pawn shop,,,
I couldn't resist and purchased it on the spot so the 36 wouldn't be lonely.

The 36 is a round butt and is named Velma after my sister,,,
The 34 is a square butt and is named Velda after Mickey Spillane's secretary.
To even them up I bought those Pachmayer grips that have the exact same outer size.

Then I was in that same Evil Pawn Shop and saw a somewhat beat-up 3" Model 34,,,
It had the ugliest fake pearl grips I have ever seen on a gun,,,
I had them described as "Mother of Toilet Seat" grips.

It looked like someone had dropped it on a concrete surface,,,
It had a couple of small dings on the sight groove,,,
And while not rusted, the blue was worn.

So I did a bit of judicial file work to smooth those dents,,,
And did a surprisingly decent job of cold bluing it,,,
Replaced those plastic grips with laminates,,,
And ended up with a fine shooting gun.

Even with the grips she cost me less than $300.00,,,
I would love to find a 4" Model 34 as well,,,
But those guns have gotten too pricey.

Since this gun had obviously been "rode hard and put up wet",,,
I named her Libby after Libby Thompson (AKA Squirrel Tooth Alice),,,
A famous prostitute and madam of a brothel in 1890's Sweetwater Texas.

Thanks for looking,,,

I like your style and do enjoy twins as well. @Thorgrim is killing me right now. He has a twin to my 66-1 Snub.
