If I was going to spend a little more $$$ I would more than likely get a used Colt, Sig or STI. I like Springfield's and may look at an EMP down the road for a carry gun as well. If you are looking for a good shooter for a good price then I have to recommend the RIA Tactical. I recently traded for an RIA Tactical and I really like it so far. It has a surprisingly tight fit for a gun in this price range. Just look online and you will see how many people appreciate these Rock Islands. Just to note, they are cast pistols so if you want to do slide/frame work then that is something to think about. If checkering/serrations is something on your to-do list then a SA might be more inline due to their forged frame. Regardless the RIA is a great entry 1911 and won't give you very many, if any hickups.
