There are some pretty big security holes in FTP: dropping it is a good idea. Whether you stay with them or not should depend on what it is replaced with. SSH-SFTP is pretty much a plug and play replacement without the security holes.

I've been using Dreamhost for the past seven(!) years, and have had no major problems.

Good luck.

Problem is they are not replacing it with anything that will allow unattended or automated uploads. I wrote a small app that captures an image from a camera and FTP's it to the club web site. It does this every 30 seconds or so and was a great way to have a web cam on our club site without a dedicated server, fixed IP or anything that adds to the cost of the client or the site. No way to do this without some form of FTP

I can recommend hostdime, i have been using them for 10+ years with almost no downtime at all. Cool thing is they have kept current customers happy, I have never had a price increase, I still pay $6/month for unlimited storage and bandwidth multiple domains, even though their base price has increased over the years to now $20/month.

What level of support do you think you are going to need?

Are you just needing a shared hosting solution, or do you need a dedicated hosting environment?

Locally you could use either Tulsa Connect or Isocentric. However, neither of them are staffed well enough to provide 24 hour technical support.

You are better off using someone like 1&1 hosting. You might have to talk to someone form India, but there will also be someone to help you resolve your issues. If you have a really static site, don't need any help with your migration and setup, then you have a lot more options, many of which were already mentioned.
