Well sir I didn’t read all the replies but IMO why not cut and form (great hammer skills) and weld on a patch! Then just cover with leather, vinyl etc. To me that looks the easiest. Contact me if you wish. Welded most of my life and even taught in Career Tech.

I have a small MIG and a good TIG (no gas for either one yet)

I thought I could weld up some small holes in this old tricycle seat with the MIG but my inabilities overcame my skills.
