I picked up one of these http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/12/ralph/gun-review-hr-1871-pardner-pump-protector-12-gauge/ from academy a couple years ago. Kicks like a mule but really rugged. I want to say was under 200 when I bought it but has been reliable for my needs.

It's much the same as the Hawk 981 without the rail. And from the review made by the same basic company anyway. And if you can pick it up local instead of online no extra ffl transfer cost or shipping.

I have owned a field version of the Maverick 88, and had no reason to dislike it.

Are there any experiences with the Hawk shotguns?

How do the Hawks compare to the other cheaper shotguns?

Granted more rounds is always a good thing, but when it comes to a HD shotgun, and you've emptied the gun of 5+1, either your a bad shot or WWIII has started!

I will second the Rock Island M5. You can order a 7 round mag and spring if thet ever get them back in stock.
