Installing a mag follower...

I'm thinking this shouldn't be hard but I'm not having luck with getting it done. I've got a Ruger 9mm 1911 mag and a Tripp Research follower I want to install. The bottom plate on the mag looks like it's tacked in place and not coming off.

Any advice?

There should be a hole in the black base pad
insert punch and the slide off base pad
Spring is under presser
