Interesting Oklahoma law I have questions about.

I was on handgunlaw.us this evening reading up on some gun laws in other states, and I went back to OK, and found a law that I'd never seen discussed on here. Kind of grey?
What is the definition of bus?
It appears the bus driver can confiscate your weapon if your seen with it?
Would you surrender yours to a bus driver?

§21-1903 D. No person, other than an authorized law enforcement officer, shall board a bus with a dangerous or deadly weapon concealed upon or about his person. Upon the discovery of any such item or material, the company may obtain possession and retain custody of such item or material until it is transferred to the custody of law enforcement officers. Any person convicted of violating this subsection shall be guilty of a felony, and shall, upon conviction, be imprisoned for not more than ten (10) years, or fined not more than Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00), or both.

In this particular case ... well ... unconcealed is unconcealed. Keep Calm and Open Carry On!

Uhhh... I thought there was something in the last couple years that addressed carry on public bus service.

I agree, I'd like to hear some of our legal eagles' opinions. Maybe this is something that we need to see if OK2A can address and try to get one of our legislators to author some legislation to correct? No way would I surrender my weapon to an employee of a private company, much less a bus driver. A certified and on-duty LEO... depends much more on the circumstance, but it might end up more in the, "I'm not resisting your illegal seizure of my lawfully-carried firearm, but I am voicing my strenuous objection and filming this on my phone as proof," kinda thing.

<edit> I would say I never ride a bus... but my wife rode our local public transit a couple weeks ago after dropping my truck at the mechanic's shop (I was at work), so who knows what may happen in the future? She doesn't have her permit yet, either. I've been telling her ever since she got her citizenship almost 2 years ago...

That's probably what I remember. I guess it probably failed in committee or something.

We need to talk to OK2A to see if we can get this addressed again.

It doesn't just address guns. The law says dangerous or deadly weapons. Guess you must surrender your pocket knife, umbrella, handcuff your hands, or hobble your feet, because all have killed someone at one time or another and are considered dangerous.
What a stupid amendment to the law. What stupid person allowed that to pass?

What is the definition of bus?

I would wonder about that myself as I have never seen or heard of this law before. I could see a school bus----but in the law, it states "the company may obtain possession and retain custody of such item or material until it is transferred to the custody of law enforcement officers" and by company wouldn't that me an entity like Greyhound Bus Lines(are they still around anywhere) and then there would also be city buses. Would a minivan be considered a "bus"? Definitely a "grey area" IMHO.
