What's this DVD you speak of ? lol I don't think I have had a DVD player in well over a decade that is starting to be some throw back stuff there
DVD's are the things that fill a few shelves in my garage totaling a little over 3000 from my collection many years ago. Before digital. Now I pay the same and have nothing to hold in my hand. And with so much invested.... alas they SIT in boxes...

It's probably because I'm a Boomer,,,
But I much prefer having physical media.

If one relies totally on streaming,,,
They are at the mercy of content providers.

I was somewhat heart-broken when Netflix discontinued their DVD services,,,
They had a vast catalog of older more obscure movies to rent,,,
Now that they are streaming only that catalog is lost.

I have found a website that sells those older movies,,,
But they want an outrageous price for them.

For example, the Jimmy Stewart movie, Flight of the Phoenix,,,
This place wants $29.95 for the DVD.

That's one of my absolute favorite movies,,,
But not for that price.

I'm sad,,,

Nothing to do but watch some tube,,,
I picked up a $5.00 DVD at Walmart yesterday,,,
That 1982 sword and sorcery movie titled Beastmaster.

I haven't seen it in well over 30 years,,,
But if I remember correctly Tanya Roberts goes "Au Natural",,,
That alone should be worth the small price I paid for the danged video.

So I'll rustle up some grub,,,
Get out the fixin's for a few Cuba Libre's,,,
And settle in for some cheesy fantasy adventures.

Dang but I hate winter!

Yup. It's based very loosely on Andre Norton's book by that name. One of my favorites and written in 1959. I first read it in 1965 or so. The pretty girl in her story didn't show up until about 40 years later...

Got all of those, too.

Back in the late 70's I was gifted a HUGE collection of sci-fi and fantasy paperbacks,,,
I remember reading Andre Norton's Beastmaster before I saw the movie.

Both are decent but the two are nothing alike.

Amen! Loved the movie, knew what it was based on even though it wasn't made clear, and wished they'd retitled it. Most of a decade after I first read the book, I quit smoking so I could spend the money on more books. I have at least 3 copies of Beastmaster in paperback, digital versions of all her work, and the DVD. Cigarettes were $0.35/pack including tax back then, and I was doing 3 packs a day. That was 5 used paperbacks...

Books will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no books.

Still being a bit bored here,,,
It's too danged cold to go do anything,,,
So it's Netflix and my somewhat meager DVD collection.

I'm going on a B&W kick this evening,,,
The Thing from Another Planet - Starring Keith Toby and James Arness as the Thing.
Them - Starring James Whitmore and again James Arness as an FBI agent
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms - Keith Toby is in this one as well.

Remember that 1998 version of Godzilla,,,
The one starring Mathew Broderick and Jean Reno.

It was successful but not a huge hit at the time,,,
Most people agreed that the giant iguana wasn't a convincing "Godzilla".

The producers screwed up by not fessing up and saying,,,
They copied the heck out of the Beast from 20,000 fathoms.

Right down to the scene where the monsters both arise out of New York Harbor,,,
The Godzilla version was danged near identical to the Beast.

With a few pauses to eat and such,,,
These movies should get me through to bedtime.

And provide a nostalgic blast to my past,,,
Where these movies terrified my 6 year old self.

The Thing is actually a 3-DVD set,,,
The Original, the Kurt Russel version,,,
And the totally unnecessary prequel version.

I'm good for tonight and tomorrow.
