Where would you go that is any better? Honest question, not an argument. I'm curious.
I've looked, and read other folks comments about moving. Panama, Ecuador, and some other South American countries. All seem to have gun restrictions much more than the US. They allow a gun or two, no semi's and all have to be registered.
Perhaps I'm missing something?

Uruguay is about the only South American option. It’s cattle country, their president is the poorest leader in the world (he’s a farmer) and famously honest. Cost of living is low, they rank 12th overall on the global retirement index and they’re much more socially and politically stable than all the other SA nations. It’s ranked as one of the safest nations in SA.

Oh, and they’re 9th overall worldwide for civilian gun ownership per capital. They have an estimated 1.2 million civilian guns in a population of 3.4 million. They have a few wonky laws, but you can get full auto and carry permits, so it’s definitely not all bad.

*IANAUL, but I’ll betcha the laws regarding gun ownership and carry are different for a Uruguayan citizen and a disgruntled American ex-patriate. I’d check Costa Rica out if I was thinking about taking a leave of absence from the USA. It’s closer, the seasons are the same, and the toilets south of the equator run CCW. (Or so I’ve heard). To me, that’s a bad omen, that CCW thing about the toilets makes me question CCW of a gun.

Carried a 1911 all over Bolivia in the 90,s. Never had any problem with the police or Military. It was never even questioned. I did get informed buy their Dept. Of State that I would need permission to bring a gun......from the airlines. I bought several guns while there to include a beautiful orriginal Nederland contract AR-10...... FULL AUTO! It may have changed, but at the time it was real gun friendly.

The older ya get, the more important the right to carry becomes IMO. A carry weapon is still the great equalizer.

Actually, not exactly. Not quite to the extent I am allowed here, no, but then most other states don't have laws equivalent to OK's, either.

Are you saying you're afraid your gat will get a CCW swirlie if you drop it in the bowl down there?
Yes they do have registration and more restrictions on legal possession and carry, but I was heartened to see they have a near 50/50 mix of legal registered guns and unregistered guns floating around. Sounds like as long as you live in the right area and make the right friends, you'll be fine either way.

Should I ever make the leap, you'll be able to find me chasing golden dorado in the tailwaters.

That's fine, be my guest. I'm just saying when they make it prohibitive for me to earn a living, then I will go somewhere I find it more worthwhile to live and work.

I'm sorry if people think I'm a coward, or a whiner or giving up or whatever. But I'm not going to go on a shooting spree because they raise my taxes to the point it makes it impossible (or below my personal threshold for persecution) to live comfortably. Sure, there are some points where it may come to raising arms in the defense of your family or your home or whatever, but I don't think a taxation bill is probably that point. Do you?

I kinda think it would be better for us to pack up and go someplace more suited to what we want in terms of our lives than to end up dead and unable to support my family. I'm a fan of Ayn Rand's philosophy of making it economically unfeasible for usurpers to continue their practices by the producers packing up and quitting. F 'em. I busted my arse to learn a trade, to put in my years of effort and training. I don't want lazy people living off my back. But at the same time, I have to evaluate the risks, consequences and the payoff of any form of resistance I choose to implement... my family needs me, and if there's a way I can continue to provide for them (and myself), then I have a responsibility to do that, within reason. And let's face it, I wouldn't mind living in the sunny Caribbean. When this whole place collapses, it's could degenerate into Mad Max.

So... whatever, man.

My current plan is to retire within a mile of the lake and spend my time enjoying what's left of my life. That all depends on whether I can afford to do that. I ain't eating dog food and living in a shotgun shack just to stay here. The offshoring is Plan B, not Plan A. Either way, my fighting days will be over. I can and will still vote, even if it's by absentee ballot. But that's about it.

But always have a primary, secondary and tertiary plan, cause you might need it!
